La tasa de alfabetización de Costa Rica es una de las más altas en América Latina y los países en desarrollo. Según el informe de Desarrollo Humano de las Naciones Unidas 2016, la alfabetización de Costa Rica es del 97.8%. De acuerdo con el Foro Económico Mundial la calidad del sistema educativo es la más alta en América Latina y ocupa el lugar 28 del mundo.

Sistema de gobierno

Costa Rica es una República. Su estructura política está basada en un sistema republicano representativo con tres ramas: Ejecutivo, Legislativo y Judicial. Una de las características de Costa Rica es que no tiene ejército, el cual fue abolido en 1949.

Costa Rica es un país de alto desarrollo humano de acuerdo al Índice de Desarrollo Humano 66/188 (2016, PNUD).

Costa Rica es el país que tiene el segundo mayor índice de estabilidad política en América Latina (The Worldwide Governance Indicator, 2016).

Costa Rica es el mayor exportador de piña fresca a nivel mundial, el segundo exportador de banano y el quinto exportador de yuca (Trademap, 2016).

De acuerdo con el Índice de Calidad de Vida (Encuesta de Habitabilidad, 2016) realizado por The Economist Intelligence Unit, San José está clasificada como la cuarta ciudad en América Latina con la mejor calidad de vida.

La calidad del sistema educativo de Costa Rica ocupa el puesto 27 en el mundo, el más alto de América Latina, según el Reporte de Competitividad Global 2016 – 2017 del Foro Económico Mundial.
